Mosaic Wall Art Celtic design Art by Mel Fischer
"Square Not!" Is an original design I created for a beautiful Celtic knot mosaic wall hanging. I started off sketching out my own original Celtic knot design on paper. I hand-cut the base to give the piece a more rustic hand-made feel. Using very careful calculations and measurements, I then created the mosaic.
The main square itself is done as a Celtic motif, with iridescent glass beads which are slightly recessed from the Van Gogh glass tiles and smaller glass tiles, adding to the 3-D effect when combined with the opaque black mosaic tiles and the Van Gogh glass.
The oval shape, 11" w x 8 1/2" h and 1/2" deep is on hand-cut Wedi Board® , which is very light-weight (making it so much easier to securely hang your new piece of artwork). The back has a very secure wall mount, specially designed for Wedi Board®, that goes all the way through the board, so no chance of it slipping or coming off.
The colors are black glass tiles, hand cut silver and blue-green (teal) Van Gogh glass, hints of purple, copper, teal and reds from the iridescent beads, and the 'black' grout, which is more of a dark charcoal color.
The back is hand-signed and dated by me, the artist.
"Square Not!" was a lot of fun to create. I have always held such a fascination for Celtic knotwork and I look forward to creating more in the future.
