This was a very fun and special project Charlee and I did at Horace Mann Elementary School for their Career Day.
We first gave students a presentation on how math and English are used a great deal in creating the art we do. After the presentation, we let each student select a few mosaic tiles and choose where they would like to place them on the table. We helped them glue the tiles in place. It was fun to see the randomness, how some chose to put their tiles next to their friends' tiles and how others chose to have theirs askew and away from others.
I then took the table home and after a great deal of thought, came up with creating winding pathways to reach for the stars. I used black tiles to fill in and added clear Swarovski crystals at random points throughout to represent stars. Once the table was grouted and finished, we brought it back to the school and presented it as a gift to the school from the students.
